Tutoring Model

The Curtis Blake Learning Services Tutorial Program provides one-to-one instruction using proven, research-based interventions for students with literacy-based disabilities. We serve children throughout the Pioneer Valley, addressing most academic areas, but particularly literacy development.

All our tutors are trained in well-researched, proven techniques, such as the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® Program, the Story Grammar Marker®, and Visualizing and Verbalizing. Tutoring services can be provided under contract to the child’s public school as part of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or may be provided privately.

Tutoring Process

Prior to the start of tutoring we review student work samples, diagnostic information, and the IEP, if applicable. Each individualized program is developed to address the unique strengths and weaknesses of the student, assuring that the services we provide are appropriate to the student’s diagnostic profile.

Instruction is provided at Curtis Blake Learning Services on the campus of American International College as well as within the child’s academic setting. Active communication between the Curtis Blake staff and current school personnel ensures inclusion of the student’s curriculum within the tutorial sessions. Additionally, our effective interventions are shared with current school personnel so that they may be included throughout the student’s academic day. Regular written reports are also provided to parents and the current school to document progress.
